Kiebenhieberstrasse (Stralsund)
The Kiebenhieberstraße in the urban area Old Town in Stralsund connects the Tribseer road with Marie Street . The lead road crosses the Kiebenhieberstraße, the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Centers of Stralsund and Wismar belongs.
The street has been named after its entire current length since 1869. Until then, only the section between Pencil Street and Marienstraße was called that. The section between Tribseer Straße and Pencilstraße was called Taschenmacherstraße , in documents from the 15th century it was called Taschenstraße .
The name Taschenstraße is possibly derived from prostitutes working here , who were referred to as "Taschen". It was only later that Taschenmacherstraße became Taschenmacherstraße, although there are no references to pocket makers based here in the city documents.
The name Kiebenhieberstraße indicates contentious residents, the Middle High German word "kiben" means something like "nag". The street name is mentioned in 1402, in 1436 it appears as Kyvenibbestrate . The component "kyven" means arguing, the component "nibbe" means beak; a transfer would therefore be something like Streitschnabelstrasse . The spelling of the street name changed over time, the street was called in 1616 in Kiffernibbenstrate , in 1687 Kiebenibberstraße . In the 18th century, today's spelling appears in the documents.
Two of the houses along Kiebenhieberstrasse are under monument protection (see also the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely the houses Kiebenhieberstrasse 4 and Kiebenhieberstrasse 5 .
