Ķīpsala [ ˈciːpsala ] (older also Žagarsala , German Kiepenholm or Schaggersall ) is an island on the left bank of the Daugava in Riga , which is connected to the old town and the city center via a large cable bridge. Ķīpsala is separated from the rest of Riga by the Daugava in the east, the Roņu dīķis in the north, a sound in the west and the Āgenskalns Bay in the south.
The island has an area of approx. 1.975 km² and is inhabited by 817 people (as of 2008). In addition to historic residential streets such as Ķīpsalas iela, there is also commercial space, an exhibition center and two inner-city campsites on the island .
Ķīpsala has increasingly become a prestige residential area in Riga over the past few years and houses the residences of wealthy residents such as ambassadors and managers between derelict original buildings .
