Kiev-Kyrill residential area
The Kiev-Kyrill-Wohnplatz ( Ukrainian Кирилівська стоянка, Києво-кирилівська стоянка ) is an archaeological site with the oldest settlement in the area of today's Kiev .
Kiev-Kyrill-Wohnplatz is a monument of archeology ( Paleolithic ) by resolution No. 1761 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of December 27, 2001 .
Find place
The archaeologist Wikentij Chwoika, who came from Bohemia, discovered two cultural layers on a 150 m long and 50 m wide rocky promontory high above the Dnieper . The site is now located on Kyryliwska Street ( вул. Кирилівська ) No. 59 to 61 in the Kiev district of Podil .
Finds
On an excavation area of around 10,000 m², at a depth of 2 cm to 50 cm, there was a first layer with remains of fire places, around 300 flint tools and bones from cave bears , wolves, wolverines and hyenas. In the layer below, at a depth of about 30 meters below today's level, Wikentij Chwoika found the remains of a long-term settlement of the Magdalenian cultural stage. The most famous find is a mammoth tusk decorated with ornaments .
The finds are in the National Historical Museum of Ukraine and partly in the Museum of the History of Kiev .
