Kilmany Parish Kirk

The Kilmany Parish Kirk is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish hamlet Kilmany in the Council Area Fife . In 1973 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. It is not to be confused with Kilmeny Parish Church on Islay .

history

Kilmany Parish Kirk was built in 1768 and has remained largely unchanged since then. Thomas Chalmers , founder of the Free Church of Scotland , was a pastor there between 1803 and 1815. Around 1860 the pews were renewed and structural defects revised under the direction of David Rhind . The ceiling design probably also comes from this period. There are no regular services at Kilmany Parish Kirk today.

description

The church building stands in the middle of the surrounding cemetery. The facades of the simple hall church are plastered with Harl , with natural stone surrounds. Along the south facade, three arched windows with keystones are embedded in the masonry, of which the middle one is designed smaller. Under this there was once a side entrance, which has meanwhile been closed with masonry. On the north side, however, there are two elongated windows. A flat porch with a monopitch roof emerges on the west side . Above it sits a small roof turret with open bells.
