Kim Ki-taek (born November 6, 1957 in Anyang , Kyŏnggi-do ) is a South Korean poet .

In his poetry, Kim focuses on the physical characteristics of people, especially the issues of physicality and violence. His texts describe fear and coercion as fundamental components of the human body and go into how material and psychological violence can leave traces there. He describes these traces as habits, which provide our own self-perception with information. He explores this process in his poems. For this reason he is often referred to as an 'observer of microscopic details'.

In one of his series of poems - rat (쥐), tiger (호랑이), snake (뱀), ox (소) - all of the poems are linked by a common motif and focus on the survival instinct: the tension that results from violence and Pain arises, which is inherent in the struggle for survival, is presented directly and without sentimentality. The logic of survival that colors Kim's poetry is permeated with the presence of new life. In the course of violence and pain that has been etched into our bodies for generations, the poet discovers a glimpse into a wondrous new world in all of its purity, innocence and mystery. This new world forces us to think about violence in life.

One of his critics said that Kim had both the intellect and the sensitivity necessary to face the problems in contemporary poetry. While his poetry may lack a certain lyrical quality, it reveals both profundity and insight in his observations, with which he penetrates the conventional thoughts and sensations that obscure our vision.
