The Showa Corporation ( Japanese 株式会社 シ ョ ー ワ , Kabushiki kaisha Shōwa , German "Shōwa AG") is a Japanese stock corporation headquartered in Gyōda , Saitama Prefecture . It was founded in 1938 under the name 昭和 航空 精 機 株式会社 ( Shōwa Kōkū Seiki KK , English Showa Aircraft Precision Works Ltd. ) in Itabashi , Tokyo , Tokyo Prefecture as an armaments manufacturer of parts for aircraft . From 1946 the company was called 株式会社 昭和 製作 所 ( KK Shōwa Seisakusho , English Showa Manufacturing Co., Ltd. ), before it took on its current name in 1993 after a merger.
After the Second World War , the company began manufacturing vehicle parts , including shock absorbers in Nagoya , and has developed into a supplier to manufacturers of cars , motorcycles and boat engines up to the present day . The Showa Corporation has branches in several Asian countries, but also in Europe , North and South America .
