Kim Min-soo (born January 22, 1975 ) is a former South Korean judoka . He was second in the 1996 Olympics in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 95 kilograms.

Athletic career

Kim Min-soo won the final of the Junior World Championships in Cairo in 1994 against the Hungarian István Szasz . At the 1995 World Championships , he defeated the Canadian Keith Morgan in his first fight , and in his second fight he was eliminated by the Briton Raymond Stevens . In 1996 he finished third at the World Cup tournament in Leonding.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , Kim met the Icelandic Vernharð Þorleifsson in his first fight and won after two seconds by disqualifying the opponent. In the second round he defeated the Russian Dmitri Sergejew with Waza-ari, with the same rating he defeated the Dutchman Ben Sonnemans in the quarter-finals. The semi-final against the French Stéphane Traineau was decided by Kim after 1:54 minutes. In the final he was defeated by Poland's Paweł Nastula after 3:27 minutes.

In 1997 Kim finished third in three world cup tournaments, and in 2001 he was second in an international tournament. Overall, his career was not very successful after his Olympic medal.

Kim Min-soo was also active as a professional mixed martial arts fighter from 2005 to 2009 with moderate success .
