Kim Tomczak

Kim Tomczak (* 1952 in Victoria , British Columbia ) is a Canadian video artist .

Career

Kim Tomczak was born in Victoria in 1952. He studied at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design from 1970 to 1974 . He co-founded V tape in 1982 and has worked with video artist Lisa Steele since 1983 . Tomczak is a professor at the University of Toronto .

Exhibitions / collections (selection)

Kim Tomczak and Lisa Steele have had numerous exhibitions in Montreal , Vancouver , Toronto , Winnipeg and Halifax . You exhibited at documenta 8 in Kassel in 1987 and in 2009 had the solo exhibitions “this text / that image / these words / those pictures”, Akademie Schloss Solitude and “Becoming ...” at the Marshall McLuhan Salon, Berlin.

Works by Tomczak and Steele are represented in internationally renowned collections. Among others in Germany: Center for Art and Media Technology , Karlsruhe; Academy of Arts , Berlin and Kunstmuseum Bonn , Bonn (Ingrid Oppenheim collection)

Awards (selection)

Steele / Tomczak have received numerous awards including the Bell Canada Prize , the Toronto Arts Award and the 2005 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts for Lifetime Achievement.
