Lisa Steele

Lisa Steele (* 1947 in Kansas City ) is an American - Canadian pioneer of video art .

life and work

Lisa Steele was born in Missouri in 1947 and studied from 1965 to 1968 at the University of Missouri – Kansas City . In 1968 she emigrated to Canada. Steele is a video artist, curator and co-founder of V tape in Toronto. In 1983 the collaboration with Kim Tomczak began . Lisa Steele was appointed to a professorship at the University of Toronto in 2002 .

Numerous awards have been presented for the work of Steele and Tomczak, including the Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts (GGAVMA) .
