The Mauthausen Kindergarten is a listed building that is located in the Upper Austrian market town of Mauthausen, centrally on the park at Lindenweg 9. The kindergarten in the building is run by the Pfarrcaritas.

Location and architecture

The building was planned by the architect Julius Schulte as an Art Nouveau villa and built by Karl Weissenberger between 1914 and 1915. There is a relief of the Madonna and Child on the front of Linzerstrasse in the south . The entrance from Lindenweg in the north leads through a mighty rustic portal . To the east of this is a round tower with an onion helmet that barely towers above the ridge.

The building is a historical monument.

history

The house was inaugurated in 1916 and was intended for a kindergarten group and sewing school run by nuns of the Holy Cross . However, it was also used as a military hospital until the end of the First World War . In 1939 the National Socialist People's Welfare took over the building and the operation of the kindergarten, the nuns moved into their mother house. After the Second World War, Pastor Ludwig Hüttner got the nuns to return and they ran the kindergarten on behalf of the parish. In 1957, Caritas acquired the building from what is known as " German property ". 20 years later, the last nun left the house and the kindergarten has been run by secular kindergarten teachers ever since. In 1993 it was expanded into a three-group kindergarten, and in the same year the attic was expanded into a gymnasium.

Current

The kindergarten has been run by a voluntary management team since 2000, but the parish caritas is still the legal entity. The task of the management team is to provide the economic and personnel requirements.
