The King Faisal Air Base is a military airbase of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) and is located about 40 km northeast of Ma'an in southern Jordan in the desert near the village of Al-Jafr . Begun in the mid-1970s, it was inaugurated on June 24, 1981 by King Hussein of Jordan. It is named after King Faisal of Saudi Arabia (1906–1975) who financed it. Two squadrons of aircraft were stationed here from 1988 to 1990; today there is still a squadron of F-5E / F jets therehome. The base is often used for joint exercises with the air forces of friendly countries.
