King George V (DLR)

King George V Station

King George V is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in the London Borough of Newham . It is located in Travel Zone 3 on Pier Road in the North Woolwich district , directly on the south quay of King George V Dock . In contrast to almost all other DLR stations, this one is at street level. A walkway leads to the Woolwich Ferry .

The station opened on December 2, 2005, along with the branch line from Canning Town . It replaced North Woolwich station on the North London Line , which closed a year later. Six months before the line was completed, in June 2005, construction work began on the extension to Woolwich Arsenal . This leads in a tunnel under the Thames to the other side of the river, the opening took place on January 12, 2009.
