King Pharmaceuticals was an S&P 500 listed pharmaceutical company from the United States . It was acquired by Pfizer in 2010 .

The company's headquarters were in Bristol , Tennessee . King Pharmaceuticals manufactured a large number of different drugs, notably Altace for heart attack prevention , Levoxyl for hyphothyroidism, Sonata , a sleep disorder drug, and Skelaxin, a muscle relaxant drug .

Monarch Pharmaceuticals, Inc. was a subsidiary.
