Kino is a supergroup made up of four musicians from the progressive rock scene.

history

The founding of the band goes back to an initiative of the InsideOut label boss Thomas Waber, who asked the guitarist and singer John Mitchell ( Arena , The Urbane , Blind Ego ) after the temporary dissolution of TransAtlantic in 2002, with which musicians he would imagine a new band project could. Mitchell immediately mentioned the names John Beck ( It Bites ) and Pete Trewavas ( Marillion , TransAtlantic). The latter brought up Chris Maitland (ex- Porcupine Tree ) as a drummer.

The first album was recorded at Outhouse Studios in Reading , produced by the band itself and released in early 2005. On a subsequent tour, Kino appeared as the opening act for Spock's Beard . To support a second tour in winter 2005/2006, demos, live recordings and outtakes (including the cover version of a Kevin Gilbert song) were released on the second album "Cutting Room Floor", which was initially only available at the concerts, later also on the The band's website was sold. During the tours Maitland was replaced by Bob Dalton every now and then before the band got quiet.

After a break of 12 years, the band released their second album "Radio Voltaire" in 2018. Only the drummer has changed, Craig Blundell is now playing on the album .
