Shimoku Kio

Shimoku Kio ( Japanese 木 尾 士 目 , Kio Shimoku ; * 1974 ) is a Japanese manga artist .

Life

Shimoku Kio studied literature at Tsukuba University . In 1994 he took part in the young talent competition of the Manga magazine Afternoon for the Shiki Prize and was runner-up. This award meant that he could then publish the submitted short story, Ten no Ryōiki , in the afternoon .

He has been working for Afternoon ever since. He drew the manga series Kagerō Nikki , Yonensei and Gonensei from 1995 to 2001. Go Nensei comprises 900 pages in five anthologies. The breakthrough came with the Genshiken series , which appeared from 2002 to 2006 in 1500 pages in Afternoon and then in nine anthologies by the Kōdansha publishing house. The comedic manga about the life of the members of an otaku student club was translated into several languages ​​and made into an anime television series in 2004 and 2007 . The sequel Geshiken Nidaime has also appeared in Afternoon since 2010 .

The characters in Genshiken are fans of the fictional anime series Kujibiki Unbalance . In 2004, three episodes of this series were actually produced as original video animation . A twelve-part anime television series followed in 2006. Kio worked on a manga for Kujibiki Unbalance from 2006 to 2007, but he only took over the plot and did not draw it himself, as his earlier works; the drawings were made by Keito Koume .

Since 2009, Kio has also been drawing the Spotted Flower series in the quarterly magazine Le Paradis by Hakusensha Verlag. The first anthology was published in 2014.
