Kipili is a city in the region Rukwa in Tanzania . It is the capital of the eponymous district ( ward ) Kipili, in which about 12,500 people live.
The city lies on the shores of Lake Tanganyika a few kilometers south of Kirando and has an airfield that is served by charter planes from Dar es Salaam and various national parks. In addition, the Liemba and Mwongozo ships serve Kipili . Kipili is the most important trading center of the district of the same name, except in Kipili itself there is only a market in Kiyombo . Shipping plays an important role in supplying the city, as the road links between the cities on the shores of Lake Tanganyika are underdeveloped. In addition to Kabwe and Kasanga , Kipili enjoys the highest priority in the state port expansion plans. A hotel is also being built on the nearby island of Mwandakelenge to promote tourism in Kipili .
A little outside of Kipili is a half-ruined mission church, which is said to be one of the oldest mission churches in Tanzania. The mission station was run by Benedictines . Today's missionary work in Kipili is driven by the Brodremenighedens Danske Mission, a branch of the Moravian Brethren . Kipili is the headquarters of the Mission Society's mobile clinic.
