Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Žeimiai
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Žeimiai ( Lithuanian Žeimių Švč. Mergelės Marijos Gimimo bažnyčia ) is a Catholic church in the town of Žeimiai in the Jonava district . It was built in 1906 and lies on the road from Jonava to Seta .
history
A. Zaviša built a church until 1522. From 1565 to 1631 it belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church. In 1720 a new church was built. From 1777 there was a community school. At the end of the 18th century there were sermons in Lithuanian and Polish and from 1851 only in Polish, sometimes also in Lithuanian. In 1842 the wooden church was rebuilt. In 1893 the church caught fire.
Engineer Vaclovas Michnevičius (1862–1947) designed today's brick church.
Chapels
There are three small chapels next to the church. Count Kossakowski were buried in two of them . The third, in neo-Gothic style, is empty.
