The Church of the Holy Trinity at the Borissow Ponds ( Russian Храм Живоначальной Троицы на Борисовских прудах ) is a Russian Orthodox church in the Russian capital Moscow . The church was built from 2001 to 2004 in the Moscow district of Orechowo-Borissowo North. It is one of the largest new churches in Russia after the end of the Soviet Union.

The decision to build a Church of the Trinity in Moscow was made in 1988. However, the church was to be built a little further west from its current location. Patriarch Pimen I. laid the foundation stone for the construction of the church on June 13, 1988. However, the construction had to be canceled after a short time due to lack of money, since at that time the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in the Moscow Kremlin was being rebuilt.

In September 2001 the construction of the Church of the Holy Trinity at the Borissow Ponds could be continued. On September 1, Patriarch Alexius II held a public prayer on the building site in the Orechowo-Borissowo North district.

The consecration of the church took place on 19 May 2004 by Patriarch Alexy II. Place. A delegation from the Russian Orthodox Church led by Metropolitan Laurus and the manager of the construction company Baltic Construction Company were invited.

The church building was built in the neo-Byzantine style . It is a central building on the plan of a Greek cross with a high dome and four apses . The height to the cross on the dome is 70 meters. The church can seat around 4,000 people. In the basement there is a baptismal font for the baptism of adults.

The complex also includes a chapel dedicated to the Russian prince Alexander Yaroslavich Nevsky , a Sunday school and a bell tower.
