Öja Church (Gotland)
The church of Öja ( Swedish Öja kyrka ) is a country church on Gotland , which belongs to the parish (Swedish församling ) Hoburg. It is located in the parish of the same name in southern Gotland, 68 km south of Visby and 1.5 km east of Burgsvik . Like the other churches in southern Gotland, it is made of sandstone. The oldest parts of the church date from the 12th century. The current nave was built towards the end of the 13th century, while the tower was built in the middle of the 14th century, at the end of the most active church building on Gotland, and comes from the stone master "Egypticus" .
Furnishing
The church contains many art-historically significant paintings and the only standing triumphal cross in Northern Europe .
