Church of Köping

The Church of Köping ( Swedish Köpings kyrka ) is the church in the village of Köpingsvik on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea .

The current church was built in 1955, but there was already a stone church in Köpingsvik in the Middle Ages . This was one of the largest churches in Sweden , which was replaced by a two- tower fortified church around 1200 . This fortified church in turn was demolished in 1805.

In the church tower is the so-called artificial stone chamber , in which many picture and rune stones found in the vicinity are exhibited. Some of them still show traces of the original coloring.
