Kirchgasse 2 (Bad Kissingen)
The kiosk, Kirchgasse 2 , in Bad Kissingen , the major district town of the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen , is one of the Bad Kissingen architectural monuments and is registered in the Bavarian Monument List under number D-6-72-114-31 .
history
The two-storey side eaves building with a mansard roof was built in 1801. The drilled window frame with carved wedge stone is a late baroque element that corresponds to the time the property was built . The false framework on the upper floor is rather atypical.
In 1893, today's Schubert wine tavern emerged from the Schubert bakery on the property . The present historical furnishings of the wine bar date from the same year.
The wine bar was often visited by the painter Adolph von Menzel , who stayed several times in Bad Kissingen for a cure. During one of these visits an incident occurred when von Menzel tried to go to the toilet. After he hadn't returned even after half an hour, he was found in the wine cellar, moaning softly between the wine barrels. As it turned out, von Menzel had mistaken the toilet door for the door to the wine cellar and fell down the stairs. A week later he visited the wine tavern again and never mentioned the incident again.
When the guest room was expanded in 1970, the “Menzelstube” was created in memory of the famous visitor.
