Kiril Petkow Petkow ( Bulgarian Кирил Петков Петков , born April 17, 1980 in Plovdiv , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian politician of the party We continue the change (PP), economist and entrepreneur. He has been the incumbent Prime Minister of Bulgaria since December 13, 2021 . He succeeds Stefan Janew , who headed two interim governments. Petkov was Minister of Economy in the Janev I government .

Life

Kiril Petkow was born in 1980 as the son of a teacher couple in Plovdiv. However, he spent his childhood in Sofia, where he studied at the Seventh School in Sofia. In 1994 his parents emigrated to Canada, where they settled in the city of Vancouver. Their son came to them after finishing seventh grade. However, they continued to visit their homeland every year.

Petkow began studying chemistry and biology at the University of British Columbia , but noticed after three years that he liked economics and finance better, so he went to Harvard . There he earned his master's degree in economic administration, graduating in the top 10% of his year. He first worked for a Canadian company and later founded his own, which also has patents in the USA. Later he introduced so-called Harvard courses at the Sofia University in Bulgaria together with Asen Wasilew . They are led by the two of them, sharing their experiences and what they have learned during their time at Harvard University and continuing to teach it to students.

He was Minister of Economic Affairs in the Janew I government from May 12, 2021 to September 16, 2021. A few days later he and Asen Vasilev founded the party We are continuing change , PP for short (from Bulgarian Продължаваме промяната, ПП). You and your party will stand in the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria in November 2021 and immediately gained 25.7% of the vote. On December 13, 2021 he was elected Prime Minister of a government of PP, BSP , ITN ( There is such a people ) and DB by the Narodno Sabranie with 134 yes and 104 no votes . The opposing votes came from the DPS and the rebirth party, which is also newly represented in parliament .
