Kirsten Mahlke

Kirsten Mahlke (* 1972 ) is a German Romanist .

Life

From 1993 to 1998 she obtained a master's degree in Romance Studies, Slavic Studies and Ethnology at Goethe University . From 1998 to 2000 she was a doctoral candidate in the graduate school for travel literature and cultural anthropology in Paderborn . After completing her doctorate (1999–2002) in Frankfurt am Main (associate at the Graduate School Travel Literature and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Paderborn ), she was a postdoc at the Center for Young Scientists in Konstanz from 2002 to 2005 . From 2002 to 2008 she was a research lecturer at the Stifterverband for general and Romance literature at the University of Konstanz. From 2003 to 2009 she was a board member of the Graduate School Figure des Third, University of Konstanz. In 2007 she was a Fellow at the Cultural Studies College of the Cluster of Excellence “Cultural Foundations of Integration” at the University of Konstanz. From 2007 to 2008 she held a chair for Romance studies at the University of Munich . After her habilitation in 2008 at the University of Konstanz (Romance and General Literature Studies), from 2008 to 2009 she held a supplementary professorship in Romance Studies in the Department of Literature Studies there. Since 2010 she has been Principal Investigator of the ERC project Narratives of Terror & Disappearance. From 2010 to 2011 she was Professor of Romance Literature at Heidelberg University . Since 2011 she has been teaching at the professorship for cultural theory and cultural studies methods at the University of Konstanz.

Her research interests are Fantastic Literature (Cono Sur) and Fantastic Theory, Narratives of Terror, Early Modern Travel Literature, and Quantum Theory and Literature.
