Kirsten Merete Langkilde

Kirsten Merete Langkilde (born September 22, 1954 in Ålborg , Denmark) has been the director of the University of Art and Design (FHNW) in Basel (Switzerland) since June 2011 .

Career

Langkilde graduated from the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen in 1986 with a focus on installation and sculpture. Since 1983 she has realized exhibitions in galleries and museums in Europe and New York . From 2001 to 2009 she was Vice President of the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlinand dean of the design faculty there. In her field of aesthetic practice, she worked experimentally with students and carried out projects with various companies and cultural partners, including: ‹PARCOURS›, in collaboration with the Berlinische Galerie (2010–2011) and ‹Optimized Dialogues - Reflectierter Do› (2010), in cooperation with the Berlin Academy of the Arts. From 2004 to 2007 Kirsten Merete Langkilde held an advisory role for the Ministry of Culture in Denmark.

Kirsten Merete Langkilde has been involved in the pan-European debate on the relationship between art and research since the late 1990s. Examples are: ‹re: search in and through the arts› (2003–2005); ‹Innovation Habitat›, as part of the 6th EU Research Framework Program (2006–2008); ‹New Morphologies›, within the framework of the EU Regional Fund (2002–2007). Artistic research is a focus that also characterizes her work at the FHNW University of Art and Design.
