Kirsten Niehuus

Kirsten Niehuus (born March 8, 1959 in Hamburg ) has been managing director of film funding in the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg since 2004 . Before that, she was Deputy Director of the National Film Funding Agency (FFA) from 1999–2004 and head of the legal department of Senator Film in Berlin from 1995–1998 .

In addition to her work as Medienboard director, the law graduate sits on various bodies in the film industry such as the Advisory Board of the German Film Funding Fund (DFFF), the shareholders' meeting of German Films and the board of trustees of the Berlin film school dffb . From 2012 to 2016 she was a member of the ZDF television council ,

Since Niehuus has headed the Medienboard's film funding, she has launched various initiatives, including the “Leuchtstoff” program for the joint promotion of young talent with the rbb , various artist-in-residence grants and co-development funds with partners in Poland and Turkey and Russia. As part of the 26th Cottbus Film Festival , she was awarded the Honorary Lubina in 2016 for her services to the development of Central and Eastern European film.

Kirsten Niehuus is the holder of the French cultural order Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and has been an honorary professor at the Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Film University since 2014 , where she teaches film finance, film funding and film policy.
