geography

The area of the former municipality with an area of 468.58 hectares is located southwest of Günzburg. Districts were the parish village Großkissendorf (seat of the community) and the village of Kleinkissendorf . The Osterbach flows along the western edge of the two districts.

history

In the Wettenhauser deed of 1136 a "Chiszendorf" is mentioned. The name is seen as a reference to the high medieval town foundation by a Chisco. From 1311 a distinction was made between the large and the small "Kyssendorf".

The municipality of Kissendorf was created on April 1, 1971 through the merger of the then independent municipalities Großkissendorf (207.35 ha ) and Kleinkissendorf (261.23 ha). It was dissolved on May 1, 1978. Groß- and Kleinkissendorf have been part of the community of Bibertal since then. The two districts are now structurally connected and are often still referred to as Kissendorf. In 2002, Kissendorf won the district decision in the competition "Our village should be more beautiful - our village has a future", which in 2010 also went to Kissendorf.
