Kiyoshi Tanabe ( Japanese 田 辺 清 , Tanabe Kiyoshi ; born October 10, 1940 in Aomori , Aomori Prefecture , Japan ) is a former Japanese flyweight boxer.

amateur

Tanabe won the bronze medal in flyweight at the 1960 Olympics in Rome . He was able to surprisingly defeat the favored Romanian Mircea Dobrescu , two-time vice European champion in 1955/1957 and silver medalist from 1956, on points in the quarter-finals , but lost in the semi-finals to Sergei Siwko from the Soviet Union .

professional

In 1963 he became a professional. He managed the feat of not losing any of his professional fights. In October 1965 he became the Japanese flyweight champion. Tanabe was able to defend the title twice before giving it up. The second time he defended his title, there was the only draw of his professional career.
