The Kizukispecht ( Dendrocopos kizuki ) is a small species of the woodpecker. It occurs exclusively in East Asia. The IUCN classifies it as (= least concern - not endangered).
Appearance
The Kizukispecht reaches a body length of 13 to 15 centimeters and weighs an average of 19 grams. It has conspicuously black and white cross-banded wings. The belly is white with fine light brown dashes. The face is smoke gray. The beak is dark gray. A line runs from the eye to the back of the head. The neck is white.
Spread and behavior
The main area of distribution of the Kizuki woodpecker is Japan. Here it is the most common type of woodpecker. It is also found in smaller numbers in China, less often in Korea and Siberia. The distribution area extends over 1.6 million square kilometers.
