Sound monument

A sound monument is a man-made movable or fixed object, or a part of such, which has a historical, cultural, scientific or artistic meaning, especially for the areas of sound technology, musical instrument technology or their respective development, from which a general interest in its protection and his care results. It is considered a subspecies of the cultural monument . The protection and preservation of sound monuments are ensured with the measures and instruments of monument preservation and monument protection .

The sound monuments include, for example, bells , historical organs or water features that operate organ pipes with water power . It can also be a technical or craft monument at the same time .

Movable sound monuments can also be assigned to the independent category of movable cultural assets or movable monuments.

The term sound monument is mainly used in Austria and is rarely used in Germany.
