Klaske Hiemstra

Klaske Hiemstra (born February 24, 1954 in Vledder ) is a Dutch writer. She writes books in the Frisian language.

Life

As a child of Frisian-speaking parents, Hiemstra grew up bilingual. Since she was eight, she has published stories and poems in Dutch on the children's website of De Friese Koerier, a regional newspaper in the province of Fryslân . During her studies in “nederlandse taal en letterkunde” (Dutch linguistics and literary studies), she chose modern literature as a major and Frisian modern literature as a minor.

Klaske Hiemstra did not begin to write texts in Frisian until 1997 when she was asked to become a member of the board of "It Skriuwersboun", the association of Frisian writers. Since December 31, 2009 Klaske Hiemstra has its own section on the website itnijs.nl , which is run by the Frisian Movement Council .
