Classroom piece

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A classroom play is usually a short play that is intended for performance in schools . The classroom piece genre has been known since the 1980s at the latest. However, this type of play has only played an important role in the theater business since the turn of the millennium , so that many theaters now include a classroom play in their repertoire . The “Theater im Klassenzimmer” festival has existed since 2002, at which various German stages present their classroom pieces.

Formally, classroom pieces are often characterized by a comparatively frequent direct address to the audience , the school class, and a very small cast (usually no more than one actor ). In terms of content, an educational objective usually dominates . A new aesthetic situation arises in the classroom piece because - in contrast to usual theater pieces - the theater comes to the audience, not the audience into the theater. This also forms a possible point of criticism of the classroom piece, as it could devalue the theater as a venue.
