Klaus-Jürgen Dankert

Klaus-Juergen Dankert (* 1939 / 1940 ; † 10. September  2019 ) was a German sports official .

Life

Dankert volunteered in sport from 1959. At the Hamburger Sportjugend he sat on the youth committee from 1962, from 1971 to 1977 he was chairman of the Sportjugend. Then Dankert got involved in the board work of the Hamburger Sportbund (HSB), from 1981 he was vice-president and between 1997 and 2005 chairman. After leaving office at the end of June 2005, Dankert was appointed HSB Honorary President. Before he was voted out of office as chairman of the Hamburger Sportbund, Dankert was criticized because, under his leadership, the HSB could not prevent the city ​​of Hamburg from collecting fees for the use of public sports facilities and halls.

Dankert was one of the driving forces behind Hamburg's application to host the 2012 Summer Olympics . After the failure in the German preselection, Dankert brought up another Hamburg application for 2016.
