Klaus Engel (Manager)

Klaus Arthur Engel (born April 21, 1956 in Duisburg ) is a German chemist and manager . From 2009 to 2017 he was CEO of Evonik Industries AG and from 2010 to 2012 President of the Association of the Chemical Industry .

Life

Engel studied chemistry from 1974 to 1980 at the Ruhr University in Bochum . After graduating, he received his doctorate in the field of organometallic chemistry in 1984 .

He then joined Chemische Werke Hüls AG in Marl , where he worked until 1989. After several positions in other VEBA subsidiaries , he took over as CEO of Degussa from 2006 to 2008 ; at the same time, as part of the merger, he was a member of the Executive Board of Evonik Industries AG from 2007 and has been Werner Müller's CEO since 2009 . At the end of February 2017, it was announced that Engel would be leaving office at the end of Evonik's Annual General Meeting on May 23, 2017. His successor in office will be his deputy Christian Kullmann .
