Klaus Esser

Klaus Esser (born December 9, 1958 ) is a German graduate curative education teacher , managing director of Bethanien Kinderdörfer and, since 2017, chairman of the Federal Association of Catholic Institutions and Services for Educational Aids (BVkE), in which he has been a member of the board since 1994.

Live and act

Esser studied curative education at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1983 to 1986 . In 1992 he took over the pedagogical management of the Bethanien Children's and Youth Village in Schwalmtal and was head of this facility from 2001 to 2018. Since 2018 he has been managing director of Bethanien Children's Villages Germany.

In addition to his commitment as chairman of the Federal Association of Catholic Institutions and Services for Educational Aids (BVkE), Esser is a member of various networks. From 1995 to 2002, for example, he headed the specialist committees “Quality Management” and “Standards and Quality Development” in the BVkE.

After completing a part-time doctorate , he received his doctorate in 2010 at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Cologne with a dissertation on the subject of “The retrospective evaluation of inpatient educational assistance by former children and young people. A contribution to quality development and impact orientation. "

Esser focuses on promoting skilled workers in the social sector, especially in child and youth welfare . He is a speaker at the European Academy for Curative Education and in the professional association of curative educators as well as a member of the “Fachzentrum Erziehungshilfe” working group at the University of Cologne. Esser was also a founding member of the European Charity University e. V . who works to ensure that ethics is given a higher priority in research and teaching.

From 2002 to 2004 he held a teaching position at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in the field of social affairs. He is the author, co-author and editor of specialist books and numerous articles in specialist books and journals.

Esser lives with his wife in Schwalmtal-Waldniel . He is the father of two children.
