Klaus Gehrig

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klaus Gehrig (born May 16, 1948 ) is head of the Schwarz Group and supervisory board boss of Lidl and Kaufland .

Klaus Gehrig began his professional career in 1971 at Aldi Süd in Mülheim an der Ruhr . In 1976 Gehrig switched to Dieter Schwarz , who was looking for a managing director for his twelve Lidl branches at the time. Gehrig had previously applied to Dieter Schwarz and was therefore immediately “released” from Aldi-Süd because of a disturbed relationship of trust. In the years to come, the discounter grew under Gehrig's leadership into the biggest competitor of the market leader Aldi. Since 2004, Gehrig has been the sole general partner of Schwarz Unternehmensstreuhand KG and thus head of the Schwarz Group .

Klaus Gehrig avoided the public for many years. Only in the course of the spying affair at Lidl in 2008 did he start a PR offensive and has been answering questions from the press on a regular basis ever since. The manager magazin named him “Manager of the Year” 2016 because he was able to increase the number of branches by a factor of 500 and sales by a factor of 300 during his time at Lidl. In March 2016, he announced by email and an interview with the company's own press officer, which was published on the intranet, that from now on all employees can address him by his first name. The Heilbronn voice first reported on the introduction of the general “you” as a salutation in the Schwarz Group .

Gehrig is to remain CEO until he is 75 years old (in 2023). A successor should have been incorporated in the last two years. Who that will be is still open.
