Klaus Gottschalk

Klaus Gottschalk (* 1937 ) is a German sports doctor and university professor .

Life

In the 1960s and 1970s, Gottschalk was, among other things, doing research on the subjects of “maximum compressive and tensile force in road drivers”, “metabolic tests on fencers in the performance class”, sports medicine options for accelerating recovery to increase performance, “questions a performance-physiologically based exercise design and the increase in stress tolerance ", the performance diagnostics in combat sports," behavior of the lactate after gymnastics stress "and for training and competition preparation. And he published essays on isometric muscle strength development, on the "Influence of the current load design in competitive sport on the adaptive behavior of the cardiovascular system", the adaptation of athletes to climatic conditions and on "Possibilities for determining the functional and training state of athletes". In 1979 he brought out the book “The hygiene of the athlete's lifestyle as a prerequisite for performance development”.

From 1980 to 1987 he held a chair for sports medicine at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig . During his time at DHfK, he dealt with, among other things, sports-medical-biomechanical aspects of training design, “cardiodynamics in sports”, the aspects “biorhythm, recovery, hygiene, sports under special conditions”, and published the books “Basics of Sports Medicine: Diseases , Injuries "and" Basics of Sports Medicine: Biological Development and Adaptation "as well as the work" Consultation Focuses Sports Medicine "as part of the" Study Guide for Sports Medicine ".

In 1987 Gottschalk moved from Leipzig to Halle and took up a professorship for sports medicine at the Martin Luther University , which he held until 2002. From 1976 to 1988 he was chairman of the Leipzig district group of the Society for Sports Medicine. From 1975 to 1990 he was a member of the Central Specialist Examination Commission and from 1979 to 1990 was a member of the editorial board of the journal “Medizin und Sport”.

When the Stadtsportbund Halle was founded in 1990, Gottschalk was one of the members of the first board.

He partly contributed to the magazine “Contributions to Sports History”, in 2004 Gottschalk published  the book “Sprich wörtlich Sport: Proverbs and reflections on health and sport from antiquity to the present” together with Waldemar Cierpinski . In 2007 he contributed the chapter “The contribution of the DHfK to the training of specialists in sports medicine” to the book “German University for Physical Culture Leipzig 1950-1990”.
