Klaus Helfrich (Old Americanist)

Klaus Helfrich (born February 27, 1941 in Cologne ; † February 28, 2017 ) was a German American scholar and museum director.

Life

From 1972 Helfrich worked as a scientist for the Ethnological Museum in Berlin. As the successor to Kurt Krieger , he was director of the Ethnological Museum in Berlin from 1985 to 2000 . Helfrich undertook various research trips and in 1995 organized the first Asmat exhibition in Germany. He organized the America exhibition New Worlds - New Realities, America 1492–1992 in the Ethnological Museum on the anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus.
