Klaus Kirsten (* 1929 ; † 1999 ) was an architect in Berlin and a partner in the Kirsten & Nather architectural office .

Life

From 1948 to 1955, interrupted by study visits to Italy and two semesters in Stuttgart, the son of a professor of dentistry studied architecture with Hans Scharoun , Willy Kremer and Herta Hammerbacher at the TU Berlin . Together with the architect Heinz Nather , who was studying in Berlin at the same time, he ran the Kirsten & Nather architectural office in Berlin from 1957 until his death in 1999 , which was one of the most prominent offices in Berlin in the 1950s and 1960s. Each of their buildings, regardless of whether it is a factory building or a residential building, is characterized by an equally idiosyncratic and confident approach to forms and materials. Characterized by the avant-garde architecture in Italy and the United States, the office built unconventional, open structures in free forms, mostly on private orders, especially in the 1950s and 1960s.
