Klaus Seifert (refugee)

Klaus Seifert (born March 14, 1953 in Bibra (Grabfeld) , † May 4, 1971 in Würzburg ) was a fatality on the inner-German border .

Life

Klaus Seifert fled from the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany on the night of April 8th, 1971 near Schwickershausen . He stepped on a mine that tore off the heel of his left foot. Nevertheless, he got to West German territory and stayed there exhausted. By chance he was found by a hunter and taken to the Mellrichstadt hospital. On April 15, he was transferred to the Luitpold Hospital in Würzburg as a result of an infection with a gas fire , where he died on May 4 of a cardiovascular failure as a result of the gas fire infection .

In the trial against members of the National Defense Council before the Berlin Regional Court on September 16, 1993 , Heinz Keßler was sentenced to seven and a half years imprisonment for the killing of Klaus Seifert.
