Career

Stabach played in his youth from 1953 to 1958 for the BSG Progress Guben . He then went to ASK Vorwärts Cottbus for a few months as part of his military service and shortly afterwards to ASK Vorwärts Berlin , where he stayed until 1960. Then Stabach returned briefly to Guben before he was signed by SG Dynamo Cottbus. In 1962 he moved to the upper division SC activist Brieske-Senftenberg . He made his debut on August 19, 1962, when he played on the first match day of the 1962/63 season in a 0-0 draw against his former club and reigning champions ASK Vorwärts Berlin. After that, Stabach was no longer used until the 14th matchday, but then again regularly. In total, he was able to book 10 league appearances for himself at the end of the season. After only one season he was committed by the GDR league club SC Cottbus . From the beginning he was part of the permanent staff. Stabach made his first appearance for Cottbus on August 18, 1963 in a 1-1 draw against SG Dynamo Schwerin . In 1963/64 he started 29 times and scored three goals. Even after the soccer department was outsourced to BSG Energie Cottbus in 1966, he stayed with the team. 1972/73 he was used in 22 league games and qualified behind the non-promotional reserve team of the BFC Dynamo for the promotion round to the GDR Oberliga. Stabach took part in all eight games and scored one goal; in the end the promotion to the league was certain. There he was used in all 26 games in 1973/74 . His first and only goal in the league he succeeded on September 1, 1973, when he met on the 4th game day in the 82nd minute to equalize 1: 1 against Rot-Weiß Erfurt . After the season, Stabach ended his career in 1974.

From then until 1984 he worked as team leader and managing director at BSG. From 1984 to 1990, Stabach was the club's technical director and manager until 2015.
