Architecture and history
The area of today's Kleersbrücke already served as a bridge location in historical times. To the south was the Quedlinburg city fortifications. First there was a wooden bridge that had to be renewed regularly. Its meaning was secondary, it was called Saubrücke. It served as access to the Brunlakenmühle and was used by people who brought grain to the mill with donkeys . During the flood of 6./7. January 1539 the bridge was destroyed. A later renewal took place at least in 1705 for 80 thalers. In 1857 the old Kleersbrücke was torn down and replaced by a new one. This new building took place in connection with the extension of Weberstrasse through the former city wall to the north. The traffic led from there over the Kleersbrücke westwards to the street Gröpern. In 1926 a new bridge was built as part of the expansion of the An den Fischteichen road. In 2006 the bridge from 1926 was demolished and replaced with a modern concrete bridge. Remains of wooden pillars from the previous buildings were found during the construction work.
The bridge is listed as a monument in the Quedlinburg monument register (as of 1998). The parapet with expressionist and neoclassical elements was used here. The contained wrought iron railings and on the east side of the bridge obelisk with applied vases existing parapet dates from the 1920s and has been preserved even today, despite construction of the bridge.
