The Kleinbahn Rinkerode – Ascheberg was a narrow-gauge railway line in Westphalia , which was initially built as a construction site railway to transport materials between Rinkerode and Ascheberg and was used as planned from 1917 to 1925 for passenger transport.

history

During the construction of the Dortmund – Münster state railway , it was necessary for the construction company Philipp Holzmann to build and operate a small railway to transport materials . In particular, it was used to transport material for the construction of the embankment of the state railway line opened on October 18, 1928. The building material was brought to Rinkerode with the Reichsbahn from Hiltruper Steiner See , which was desanded, and transferred here to the small train. These transports have been running since 1915. The route was built by Holzmann AG, taking into account plans by Erwin Scotland under the direction of the site manager skull. The route was led via the Hoheheide, Davert and Davensberg stops. The light railroad was not approved for passenger traffic. Therefore, they had by the Prussian government to the status of persons marketable Kleinbahn after Prussian Light Railway Act are applicable.

From May 1, 1917, during the First World War , three pairs of trains were provided daily for passengers, consisting of one or two passenger cars and a self-made mail car. The traveling postman sold the tickets.

The train needed more than an hour for the route and carried around 30 people, i.e. 180 passengers a day, extrapolated up to 60,000 per year. However, the income from ticket sales was insufficient to cover costs. These financial reasons and the fact that the material web had become superfluous after the completion of the Dortmund – Münster railway line led to the cessation of operations, probably in February 1925.

The route was primarily based on existing dirt roads. Between Davensberg and Ascheberg, the line ran parallel to the state railway line under construction, but did not lead all the way to Ascheberg station, but ended north on an area that is now built on by a baked goods factory. At the level of Davensberg station, this line ran east to Rinkerode to end at the station on the Münster – Hamm line . From the Rinkerode train station to the small train stop, it was necessary to walk 340 m south.

The route was recorded in the timetable of the Reichsbahn, in July 1925 operations were noted as closed.

After the tracks were dismantled, the paths were expanded. The remaining railway area became arable or pasture again.

Remarkable

On February 6, 1919, a murder occurred on the train . A man dressed as a sailor shot at the postman who was on board and who was also a train attendant in order to steal money. The train attendant died on June 9, 1919 in Münster.
