Small wild goose pagoda
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda ( Chinese 小雁塔 , Pinyin Xiǎoyàn Tǎ ) is a pagoda in the Chinese city of Xi'an . It was commissioned by Empress Wu Zetian in memory of her late imperial consort in 684, along with a temple complex.
Construction work on this “Temple of Preserved Happiness” began 100 days after the death of Emperor Gaozong . The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built between 707 and 709. Originally it had a total of 15 floors, but lost its two upper floors as a result of several earthquakes. With the remaining 13 floors, it now reaches a height of around 43 meters.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site with the title Silk Roads: the Road Network of the Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor since 2014 .
