The Kleine Schwarze See is located in the southwest of the municipality of Katzow in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is 160 meters long and up to 60 meters wide.
It is the northeasternmost of a group of three smaller lakes, to which the Schlosssee near Wrangelsburg and the Great Black Lake belong. The three lakes lie on a level between 27 and 35 meters high within a marginal moraine and are the remains of a glacial reservoir.
The area of the Little Black Lake is about 0.68 hectares. Around 1905 it was given as 1.54 hectares and reference was made to the silting up of the water.
To the north of the lake there is a Slavic hill fort, which was built as an approximately 3 hectare double castle with a front and main castle.
