The Black Lake , also known as the Great Black Lake , is located about one kilometer northeast of Wrangelsburg in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The smaller western part of the 6.6 hectare lake is located in the municipality of Wrangelsburg, the larger eastern part in the municipality of Katzow . The lake is completely surrounded by forest.

It is around 415 meters long and up to 210 meters wide with an area of 6.6 hectares. Around 1905 the length was given as 425 meters, the width as up to 250 meters and the area as eight hectares. The water level of the lake had already been reduced by a ditch at that time, which diverts the water over the Prägelbach to the Ziese .

Together with the Wrangelsburger Schlosssee in the south-west and the north-east Little Black Lake , the Black Lake lies in a 27 to 35 meter high plain within a marginal moraine . The lakes are remnants of an Ice Age reservoir.
