The Klett and Balmer Verlag , based in Baar (ZG) is the leading private educational publisher in Switzerland. The publishing house was founded in 1967 by the Stuttgart publisher Ernst Klett and the Zug bookseller Hans Rudolf Balmer . The offer includes teaching materials for learners from kindergarten to adult education, with a focus on elementary schools.

history

In 1957, the Zug bookseller Hans Rudolf Balmer initially took over the delivery and representation of the general program of the Stuttgart-based Ernst Klett Verlag for Switzerland, and two years later also of the school books. In 1966, publisher Ernst Klett and the bookseller Balmer talked about a publishing collaboration at the first Didacta teaching material exhibition in Basel, whereupon Klett and Balmer Verlag was founded as a GmbH and an information office was opened the following year . Publishing activities finally started in 1970. In 1979 the publishing house was converted into a general partnership and in 1999 into a joint stock company.

Initially, Swiss editions of existing works from Ernst Klett Verlag were published . The first reading work «Der Lesespiegel» was the first in-house production in 1984, which appeared in many editions. Another teaching aid found in many school rooms is the mathematics teaching aid “Swiss Numbers Book”, which has been published since 1995. The volumes for the 1st – 4th Class based on the German teaching material from Klett adapted for Switzerland; the volumes for the 5th / 6th Class are a complete in-house development. In 2006 the Comenius Verlag was taken over, whose well-known name was retained as a brand for the music textbook "Kreschendo" and teaching aids.

When it was founded, Klett und Balmer Verlag had two employees. In 2000 there were 22 and in 2017 around 50 employees. In 2008, Klett und Balmer Verlag took over the majority of the delivery company Balmer Bücherdienst AG , which was created in 2004 from the merger of Balmer delivery and Benziger / Diogenes Bücherdienst .
