Byarum Church

The monastery Byarum is a former Cistercian convent in the Swedish countryside Småland . It was in the municipality of Vaggeryd , around 4 km north of Vaggeryd .

history

The nunnery was founded around 1170 after the Nydala monastery was established. It existed until 1230. King Erik Knutson confirmed the boundaries of the monastery property, his son Erik Erikson issued a letter of protection for the monastery in 1222. For unknown reasons, the convent moved to the new Skokloster monastery in Uppland around 1230 .

Buildings and plant

Until it was remodeled in 1758, the church had a small stone nave , but no tower.
