Cazis Monastery
The Cazis Monastery is a Dominican convent in the municipality of Cazis in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .
history
The monastery was founded at the beginning of the 8th century by the Chur bishop Viktor II. As a canon monastery. In 1156 the rule of Augustine was introduced . In 1526, after the Reformation , the monastery was condemned to extinction by the Ilanz Articles and the prohibition on the admission of novices, and in 1570, after the death of the last Augustinian, it was repealed. After that, the buildings were used by the Schauensteiners and the Planta as living space. They then stood empty for a long time and fell apart.
1647 the monastery by Bishop Johann VI. rebuilt as a Dominican priory; In 1768 it was destroyed by fire. In 1855 a boarding school for girls was opened and in 1955 a housekeeping school (St. Catharina School) was founded.
