Dietfurt Monastery
The monastery Dietfurt is a convent of the Franciscan Observant in Dietfurt an der Altmühl in Bavaria in the diocese of Eichstaett .
history
The monastery was founded in 1660, completed in 1665 and the brothers moved in. In 1802 it was dissolved in the course of secularization . The monastery was rebuilt on June 20, 1827. It belonged to the Bavarian Franciscan Province of Bavaria and since 2010, after the merger of the German provinces, to the German Franciscan Province of Germania . For a long time it housed the novitiate of the Province of Bavaria . The St. Franziskus meditation house in Dietfurt has existed at the monastery since 1977 and provides instructions for Zen meditation. During Lent, the monastery is also a big tourist and pilgrim magnet because of its Mount of Olives Games. Its history goes back to 1680.
