The early Christian monastery Drumhome ( Irish Droim Thuama ) belonging to the diocese of Raphoe in Ireland is connected to St. Ernan, a disciple of Columban . Ernan died in old age in 640 as abbot of the monastery. The death of one of his successors, Cinaedh mac Domnaill, who also directed the monastery founded by Columban in Derry , is recorded in the annals of Ulster . In 1197 the King of Tirconnell, Flaithbertach, was buried in the monastery. Until 1609 the monastery remained under the administration of the O'Dorrian family.

The monastery is located in a small valley not far from Donegal Bay , about two and a half kilometers to the north-west of Ballintra . As early as 1622 the church is described as dilapidated. a. a roof was also missing. Nevertheless, it remained in use as a parish church until 1795 when a new church was built in Ballintra. Today only the west gable stands. The indentation in the gable in the picture could have been a window.
